Many small birds, mammals, and fish don't live longer than six months...
the same can be said for small businesses, especially in the entertainment
industry. We're proud to note that we have passed that critical
age, and seem to be getting nicely established. Every performer
who has graced our stage has asked to come back, and nearly every
patron who has walked through the door has expressed delight at
our approach to live entertainment. Local press has been extremely
supportive, and the word-of-mouth buzz among traveling musicians
and visitors has reached the far corners of the country. It really
feels like we're doing it right, and we hope your support will continue
to make our enterprise a successful one.
SPECIAL MUSIC NIGHTS
We've arrived at a healthy mix of local talent, balanced against out-of-town
performers, and we plan to establish a predictable schedule of different types of
music... a particular day of each month for specific categories. So far, we have
chosen the first Wednesday for the Player's Open Call Song Swap, a porch-style jam for
anyone who'd like to bring an instrument and play with others.... the second Wednesday
is set aside for jazz-- straight-ahead/be-bop/down- town/street-style--- whatever gets
blown... the third Thursday we will feature a bluegrass act of some sort... and the
last Wednesday is the ongoing slot for our Songwriter's Showcase, an in-the-round set
of the best original acoustic tune- smiths we can gather. Mondays have been dedicated
to a Jukebox Open Mike Night, with the audience having some control over the duration
of a performer's presentation. Certain special booking opportunities may occasionally
disrupt that schedule, but if you are in the habit of checking the website, you won't
be caught unawares when we deviate from the (new) norm.
SOLD-OUT SHOWS AND SEATING
Our online ticket sales are proving to be an excellent way for you
to ensure access to a popular show... if you step up ahead of time
and commit yourself to a performance, you won't risk the disappointment
of walking up to a "sold-out" sign on the door. It's important that
we make the situation clear, though, regarding seating--- we only
have seventy chairs, cafe-style, around small, movable tables, and
at counters along both walls. We will sell up to 100 tickets to
a show, because some folks are willing to stand and move around,
and because we want the artist to benefit from a good turnout. The
purchase of an advance ticket does not guarantee you a seat... your
arrival time determines whether or not you sit. As the evening progresses,
some folks leave, and chairs become available... we hope you'll
be comfortable with this arrangement, it seems to be the best for
everybody involved.
FOOD AND DRINK
We are now offering an expanded menu, with new items of interest that will keep your
stomach from making those rude noises during the most delicate moments of the
performer's set. We don't call ourselves a restaurant, there's too many good ones
right nearby for us to get into that game... but if you like lightweight, interesting,
unique, and tasty fare, take a look at the menu page and see if you can't get all the
way through the evening right here. Also, we always monitor the suggestions of our
regulars, and our list of wines and beers reflects the most popular requests heard by
the service staff. Come let us know what YOU think...
TUESDAY--- "THE OTHER SATURDAY"
We pride ourselves on presenting entertainment of high quality, and now we're making
a special effort to get people out earlier in the week. Tuesday nights will be set
aside for performers of particular note, and we would like to build a crowd of
regulars who recognize the advantages of that approach... no standing for a full
house, no competition from a dozen other weekend events, and a price that is generally
lower than Friday or Saturday. Our early start time makes it possible for you to treat
yourself to an evening out, and be home in plenty of time to assume your normal
weeknight routine. Be sure to check the calendar in advance for our Tuesday schedule...
you'll be rewarded.
